Yuja Wang, Concert Dresses, and a Theme of Paganini

By the time Halloween rolled around this week, it was obvious she had to dress up like her! Tightly fitted red dress with ostentatious jewelry and perhaps a wig to make up for the short black hair. I think I heard the name Yuja Wang more than any other last week, so obviously I suggested to Dinah that dressing up like her would be the most natural outcome. And if people question who you are, that’s ok, I told her, since I didn’t know who she was a few weeks earlier either. Ever since my sister heard about Yuja Wang’s concert in San Francisco, sometime early October, she talked about the concert all the time. I know I’m the one that talks all the time, but the times that I did let her talk, it was all about this amazing pianist. At first I wondered if Dinah is pronouncing undivided loyalty to her, well because she wants to persuade me to go to this concert, but after listening to Yuja Wang perform live and then after listening all this week on YouTube, I totally get it. You don’t have to know Yuja long before you fall in love! The way she touches those keys on the piano is simply unreal, and yes I’m starting to sound like Dinah, but see for yourself. And no my sister did not take my outfit suggestion, not sure if she’ll ever love those concert dresses, but hey at least that means you have a personal designer. Oh and to add to all our love for music, concert halls and impeccably polished black ebony concert grands, Dinah’s theory teacher chose her composition as the best example and played it in class this week!!! See I’m telling you world, all that Yuja Wang is starting to rub off on her.

And here’s is an excerpt from Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini we listened to on Saturday.
